This position is open to varying levels of experience. This position is located at our Headquarters location in Bismarck, ND.
The Power Modeling Engineer/Analyst will develop and optimize power system models across generation, transmission, and distribution networks. This role leverages advanced simulation tools, load forecasting, and resource integration strategies to ensure grid reliability and efficiency, while analyzing market strategies to quantify system impacts and support energy position development. Responsibilities include maintaining and modifying complex inputs for market models, coordinating with multiple departments to interpret outputs, and using back casting to improve accuracy. The engineer/analyst will project energy revenues and costs, predict generation from Basin Electric facilities, integrate long- and short-term power contracts, and anticipate balancing needs. Model outputs will be incorporated into financial forecasting to support both long-term scenario planning and short-term projections, driving sustainable energy solutions and future grid modernization.
This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position and to move about the office building, occasionally reaching below and above shoulder level, constant use of keyboard/computer and other office productivity machinery, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination.
