The Maine Council on Aging (MCOA) is seeking a 32-hour/week Power in Aging Director to lead our growing social change movement to end ageism in Maine and advance a more age-positive, age-equitable Maine.
The Power in Aging (PIA) initiative is the home for MCOA’s work to change how people think, talk, and act about aging and older people. PIA creates educational initiatives, builds partnerships, and, importantly, creates opportunities for people and organizations to move from learning about ageism to taking action to disrupt it. Current initiatives include the Leadership Exchange on Ageism (LEA), Age-Positive Workplace, Age-Positive Healthcare and Public Health, public education and messaging, and customized training for organizations and communities.
We are looking for a dynamic leader who understands social change and what it takes to turn ideas into action. The PIA Director will lead the strategy and growth of this work, aligning PIA’s people, programs, partnerships, communications, and resources to deepen its impact and build a movement to end ageism.A particular focus will be creating more ways for engaged people to move from learning to action. The Director will also be a visible leader for this work, representing MCOA through presentations, trainings, partnerships, conferences, and other public engagement.

Strong writing, presentation, facilitation, organizational, and communication skills are essential. Candidates should be comfortable working independently and collaboratively and managing multiple priorities. Experience working on issues affecting older people and a strong working understanding of ageism are critical.
