  • Pay or shift range: $120,000 USD to $140,000 USD
    The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.

Chief Operating Officer
Qualifications
  • 8-10+ years of progressive leadership experience, including senior operations or finance roles; nonprofit experience strongly preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience supporting people with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in nonprofit financial management, budgeting, and compliance (grant/government contract experience a plus).
  • Strong people-management and team-building skills.
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or related advanced degree a plus.
  • Familiarity with Maine's nonprofit, philanthropic, or regulatory landscape is a plus.
  • Deep commitment to OHI's mission and values.
  • Valid Maine driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and implement physical interventions when required
Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the CEO to shape and implement organizational strategy and annual operating plans.
  • Serve as a key member of the senior leadership team, providing sound judgment on major decisions.
  • Act as an internal "second in command," stepping in for the CEO as needed.
Finance & Compliance
  • Participate in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations, grant requirements, and licensing requirements.
  • Steward internal controls, audits, insurance, and financial risk management.
  • Work with funding sources to address and reduce fiscal deficits
  • Maintain knowledge of funding regulations, contracts, and budgetary agreements
People & Culture
  • Participate in HR strategy: recruiting, compensation, performance management, and staff development.
  • Build and sustain a values-driven, accountable, and collaborative organizational culture.
  • Coach and develop a team of directors/managers across operational functions.
  • Supervise Division Leaders and the Executive Assistant
  • Foster a team-oriented, mission-driven culture
Systems & Operations
  • Own technology, systems, and facilities strategy to support organizational effectiveness.
  • Improve internal processes for efficiency, accountability, and scalability.
  • Manage vendor, contract, and grant administration.
  • Oversee day-to-day agency operations and keep the CEO informed of key issues
  • Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings as needed; act as CEO in their absence
  • Ensure compliance with all licensing, accreditation, fire/life safety, and regulatory requirements
Governance
  • Support Board reporting and fiduciary processes alongside the CEO.
  • Ensure organizational adherence to all applicable laws, policies, and funder requirements.
  • Stay current on state and national policy trends in developmental disabilities and mental health
  • Review and comment on proposed regulations affecting OHI and the people it serves
