Summary
The primary function of this position is to prep and maintain a rental fleet of generators, air compressors, load banks, and other miscellaneous equipment. This position involves working in the field and shop setting-up, tearing-down, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial air compressors, diesel generators, load banks, and related equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Troubleshooting operational failures of generator sets, related equipment such as air compressors or industrial engines;
  • Installation and commissioning of new units;
  • Performing both minor and major repairs to the engine, generator, or components;
  • Mentoring other technicians;
  • Safely driving a service vehicle;
  • Documenting all work and repairs completed in a timely manner;
  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of air compressors;
  • Additional experience with temperature control is a plus;
  • Assisting customers and haulers with loading/unloading equipment;
  • Verifying fuel consumption and inspecting equipment upon return;
  • Installing 'service tags' on returned rental equipment;
  • Moving 'rental ready' equipment to proper storage following routine maintenance, keeping the yard organized;
  • Safe operation of forklifts up to 34,000 lbs;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience working with Caterpillar or competitor's power generation systems.
  • The candidate must have a clean driving record and a current driver's license.
  • Basic computer skills and good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be able to comprehend, speak, and write in English.
  • Proficiency with tools such as basic hand tools, electrical tools, torque wrenches, phase rotation meter, clamp-on amp meter, high voltage sticks, grounding equipment, megohmmeter, emissions analyzer, borescope, and load bank test equipment.
  • Aptitude to become proficient in using load banks, vibration analyzers, power quality analyzers, thermography equipment, and forklift operation.
  • Sound understanding of electricity, electronics, AC/DC circuits, gaseous fueled engines, fuel, cooling, charging, and lubrication systems.
  • Understanding of engine timing, performance, and calculations related to temperature, altitude, and heat value effects.
  • Ability to read schematics, diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair mechanical and electrical problems.

Work Environment
