Job summary

Elliot Engineering, an employee-owned firm, seeks a Power Engineer II to support electrical distribution, transmission, and substation design under supervision. You will perform power-system studies, equipment sizing, and development of designs and drawings for projects from 480 V through 34.5 kV.

Ideal candidates have a BS in Electrical Engineering and 1+ years of related experience, with strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
• At least 1 year of progressive experience in electrical distribution design, power system studies, substation design, or related area.
• Experience applying electrical engineering principles to power-system design, analysis, or evaluation.
• Working knowledge of applicable codes (NETA, ANSI/IEEE, NFPA 70E, NEC).
• Ability to interpret technical criteria; prepare diagrams, layouts, and wiring drawings.
• Strong written and verbal communication; document findings clearly.
• Ability to travel up to 30% to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Serve as project engineer for multiple assignments under the direction of a Lead Engineer.
• Prepare designs and equipment specs for distribution projects 480 V to 34.5 kV.
• Perform and document short-circuit, grounding, and thermal-rating calculations.
• Conduct power system studies: coordination, arc-flash, load-flow, harmonic, power-quality.
• Prepare one-line diagrams, grounding plans, conduit and raceway plans, schematics, BOMs.
• Support protection and control design, including relay settings development/review.
• Support maintenance testing and asset-condition assessments; review records and test results.
• Create designs using AutoCAD or MicroStation.
• Develop scopes of work, conceptual designs, execution plans, and purchase recommendations.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, and internal teams for integrated delivery.
• Support substation construction, startup, commissioning; prepare calculations, reports, and docs.
