Job description

I’m partnering with a rapidly growing advanced-engineering company to identify a hands-on Power Electronics Test Engineer for its Austin team.

This is an opportunity to work on highly differentiated technology within a well-funded, pre-IPO business entering an important stage of commercial growth.

The position will act as a critical link between Electronics Design, Test & Integration, and Manufacturing. You’ll work directly with power-conversion hardware - testing, debugging, validating performance, and investigating failures across the product lifecycle.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Testing and validating AC/DC, DC/AC, and DC/DC power-conversion systems
  • Performing functional, performance, and stress testing
  • Measuring voltage, current, power, efficiency, switching waveforms, thermal behavior, and EMI
  • Building and operating power-electronics test benches
  • Troubleshooting hardware issues across engineering, integration, and manufacturing
  • Investigating failed equipment and conducting root-cause analysis
  • Creating test plans, procedures, and clear technical documentation
  • Working safely with energized and high-voltage electrical systems

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • 2+ years of relevant industry experience—or a master’s degree focused on power electronics
  • Genuine hands-on experience with power-electronic hardware
  • Understanding of fundamental power-converter topologies
  • Ability to interpret schematics and component datasheets
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, electronic loads, and related laboratory equipment
  • Strong hardware troubleshooting and analytical ability
  • Understanding of electrical safety within high-voltage environments
  • Working knowledge of PCB design and layout

Particularly relevant experience could include:

  • Motor drives or inverters
  • Motor-control theory
  • Power systems operating at voltages up to approximately 1000V
  • EMI/EMC testing and troubleshooting
  • Manufacturing or field-failure investigation

This is not a general systems-validation or software-testing position. We’re specifically interested in engineers who enjoy being in the lab, working directly with power hardware, interpreting switching behavior, and methodically diagnosing why something has failed.

The role is based in Austin, TX, and requires regular onsite laboratory work.

We're unfortunately unable to support visa sponsorship or transfers at this time.
