Job summary

Thea Energy in New Jersey is seeking a Power Electronics Engineer to design the HTS magnet power supply systems for the Eos stellarator. You will lead high-current converter development with precise current regulation and reliability for continuous operation.

Responsibilities include topology selection, modular PSU design, and integration with embedded control hardware, with hands-on prototyping and cross-functional collaboration across engineering teams at Thea Energy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or related field.
• 5+ years designing and testing power converters in high-current magnet power supply contexts.
• Experience with DC-DC converters (buck/boost/full-bridge) and current-regulated stages.
• Strong modeling tools: PLECS, LTspice, PSIM, Simulink, or Simplorer.
• Familiarity with IGBTs, MOSFETs, SiC/GaN, high-current busbar layouts.
• Knowledge of current sensors, signal conditioning, and analog control.

Responsibilities

• Lead topology selection and component specification for the HTS Magnet PSU.
• Design modular power converters with arrayed operation and independent control.
• Analyze and simulate converter behavior (steady-state, dynamic, fault) using PLECS/LTspice/Simulink.
• Integrate with embedded control hardware, ensuring accurate current regulation and fast feedback.
• Define magnet protection: overcurrent shutdown, fast discharge, crowbar if needed.
• Develop thermal management: heat sinks, cooling, temperature monitoring.
• Design PCB layout and support mechanical integration, cabling, assembly.
• Develop test plans and perform hardware bring-up and parameter optimization under staged load.
