As a Power Electronics Applications Engineer, you will be at the forefront of designing next-generation electrical systems for Trane Technologies' premier climate control products, with a heavy emphasis on our industry-leading industrial chillers. This role is housed within the Electric Systems and Components (ESC) group-a key branch of our global Advanced Concepts and Capabilities team in Corporate Engineering. You will be empowered to drive technical strategy, manage your own initiatives, and see your designs directly translate into critical, real-world sustainability wins.
Project Leadership & Execution: Act as a self-guided owner of your projects. Develop project plans, prioritize tasks, achieve scheduled milestones, and proactively identify quality and productivity improvement opportunities.
Participate on teams to work through customer issues to make choices to keep Trane Technologies at the forefront of technology. Filing to patents on intellectual property to novel solutions as you translate end-product solutions into system and power electronic module requirements.
Electric Systems Design, Simulation and Concepting: Use your expertise in multiple power electronic topologies to develop DC-DC converters, AC-DC-AC power conversion units, and other advanced devices. Translate end-product duty cycles into detailed requirements and model thermal management, EMC/EMI compliance, and motor control algorithms.
System Modeling & Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis and model-based simulations of electromechanical rotational machines, power electronics, and control systems using tools such as Matlab/Simulink/SimScape, PSIM, and PLECS.
Product & Laboratory Qualification: Develop laboratory test plans, select and define strategic testing equipment, and lead qualification testing. Analyze test data and prepare comprehensive technical reports to ensure design reliability, durability, and safety.
Supplier & Supply Chain Integration: Partner with Supply Chain and Procurement teams to support supplier onboarding and part-release workflows (including engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications).
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Network across the enterprise to identify opportunities to integrate new technologies. Partner with product teams, customers, and suppliers to resolve technical issues and keep Trane Technologies at the cutting edge.
Education & Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Engineering Physics. A minimum of 2 years of relevant electrical engineering work experience.
