Job summary

The University of Nottingham is seeking an Application Engineer for the Power Electronics, Machines and Control Institute (PEMC). This hands‑on role involves designing novel power converter topologies, validating drive control code, and building hardware to run experiments on PEMC’s advanced facilities.

You will work with researchers and industry partners across the full project lifecycle. You will contribute to system integration, testing and reporting, reporting to the Professor of Power

Qualifications

  • Proven design skills in power electronics converters and drive systems from concept to hardware.
  • Experience writing power electronics control code in C or equivalent.
  • Solid understanding of topology selection, gate drive design and EMC in power converters.
  • Practical lab skills in converter characterization, instrumentation and data acquisition.
  • Experience with reliability assessment for power semiconductor devices.

Responsibilities

  • Design novel power converter topologies and drive systems for PEMC projects.
  • Write and validate drive control code in C or equivalent.
  • Build, commission hardware, and run experiments on PEMC facilities.
  • Collaborate with academics, researchers and industrial partners across the project lifecycle.
