Placements24 is seeking a qualified Power Distribution Engineer in Welkom to lead planning, design, operation, and maintenance of the power grid. You will ensure reliable electricity supply, analyze networks, and support regulatory compliance within the Free State region.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems focus and 5+ years of experience, plus proficiency in ETAP or PSS/E. Substation knowledge and PE/Technologist registration are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical power distribution engineering.
• Proficiency with power system analysis software ETAP or PSS/E.
• Registered as Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) or Technologist (Pr. Tech. Eng.) is advantageous.

About the Role

Our client, a key player in the utility sector in Welkom , is seeking a qualified Power Distribution Engineer to manage and enhance the electrical distribution network. You will be responsible for the planning, design, operation, and maintenance of the power grid, ensuring reliable and efficient electricity supply to customers in the Free State region. This role demands a strong understanding of power systems, network analysis, and regulatory compliance. You will play a vital part in maintaining and upgrading the existing infrastructure, as well as contributing to the planning of future network expansions, ensuring the delivery of essential services to the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and optimize the electrical distribution network, including substations and overhead/underground lines.
• Conduct load flow studies, short circuit analysis, and protection coordination studies.
• Manage maintenance and upgrade projects for distribution infrastructure.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant electricity regulations and safety standards.
• Respond to and resolve network disturbances and power outages.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, contractors, and internal teams on project and operational matters.

Requirements
