Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Designer and Drafter for power distribution with training provided. The role focuses on designing and drafting construction work packages for electrical distribution systems for utility customers, with field data translation and client coordination.

Responsibilities include drafting packages, BOM preparation, SAP entry, and permitting support. The position blends office, remote, and field work across the Midwest with training provided to grow in utility engineering roles.

Qualifications

• Experience with CAD design and drafting in utility/construction settings.
• Proficient in CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Catia, MicroStation, Revit).
• Familiarity with Open Utilities or similar software.

Responsibilities

• Independently develop detailed design and construction work packages for distribution systems.
• Review client docs, clarify missing info, and translate requirements into buildable packages.
• Perform field visits to capture measurements and conditions for design input.
• Create electrical distribution designs using designated software and calculate loads, voltage drop, and sag.
• Prepare BOMs and enter data into SAP or other systems.
• Assist with permitting and coordination for rights-of-way and tree clearance.
