Job summary

GAI Consultants Inc. seeks an Intern (Transmission & Distribution) to join our Power Delivery Team in Pittsburgh, PA for a three-month summer assignment. You will assist engineers and project managers with transmission line and distribution design and analysis using industry tools.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in an accredited engineering program with strong problem solving, communication, and the willingness to learn practical engineering principles on real projects.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in accredited college/university to obtain a bachelor's degree in engineering (preferred).
• Required classes: Statics and Material Science.
• Preferred classes: Structural Analysis, Soil Mechanics, Steel Design, and Concrete Design.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers and project managers with day-to-day project tasks for successful delivery.
• Prepare Specification Packages.
• Prepare Structural and Fabrication Drawings.
• Design and analyze transmission lines using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-Tower.
• Design and analyze foundations.
• Analyze existing and proposed structures for codes, standards, and specs.
• Perform electrical clearance checks and calculations.
• Coordinate and develop permits for Railroads, Roadways, and Environmental Crossings.
• Apply engineering principles to assist in design of Power Delivery Projects.
• Demonstrate attention to detail.
• Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
• Follow established processes to perform complex tasks.
