Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Power BI Developer to support a Business Intelligence program. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Power BI development, data modeling, DAX, data connectivity, report optimization, and collaboration with business and technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements Gathering

• Collaborate with business users and data analysts to understand reporting, visualization, and data-model requirements.
• Identify relevant data sources and attributes required for reporting solutions.
• Use Excel at an intermediate level, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
• Reverse-engineer existing business processes, formulas, pivot tables, and manual analyses to identify requirements and recommend process improvements.

Data Modeling

• Design and document conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
• Develop reusable semantic data models within Power BI.
• Implement row-level and column-level security.
• Create and optimize relationships between tables and data structures.
• Apply Power BI and DAX modeling best practices, including familiarity with Tabular Editor Best Practice Analyzer.

Data Source Connectivity

• Connect Power BI to various data sources, including:
• APIs
• BigQuery
• ArcGIS maps and feature layers
• SQL databases
• Support efficient data extraction and transformation.
• Collaborate with integration teams to determine appropriate integration patterns.

DAX Development

• Develop advanced DAX formulas and calculations.
• Create calculated columns, measures, and custom calculations.
• Optimize DAX and data models for performance.
• Design and develop interactive, user-friendly Power BI reports and dashboards.
• Build slicers, visualizations, drill-through functionality, streaming visuals, and ArcGIS visuals.
• Analyze and optimize report performance using Power BI performance tools and DAX Studio.
• Recommend improvements to the underlying data model when needed.

Power BI Service & Deployment

• Publish and manage reports through Power BI Service.
• Configure access controls and security.
• Manage and automate data refresh schedules.
• Optimize reports and datasets for large-volume data environments.
• Follow established source-control and version-control practices for Power BI files.
• Utilize Azure DevOps as appropriate for development and deployment processes.

AI & Emerging Technologies

• Use AI tools and technologies to improve reporting, data analysis, and business processes.
• Familiarity with Google AI tools is a plus.
• Work effectively with cross-functional business and technical teams.
• Translate technical concepts and complex data insights for non-technical stakeholders.
• Conduct presentations, working sessions, screen-sharing meetings, and requirements-gathering sessions.
• Participate in backlog discussions and provide updates on work-item status.
• Adapt reporting solutions as business requirements evolve.
