Job description

Position Overview:

The Power BI Dashboard Specialist is a member of the Strategic Integration team and supports the agency by building clear, usable Power BI dashboards that bring together program data with organizational data such as finance and human resources. Working at the direction of the Strategic Integration Manager and from validated data prepared by the Data Analyst and partner departments, this position designs, builds, and maintains dashboards that help program leaders, executives, and funders understand program outcomes alongside the resources, staffing, and costs behind them. This position does not manage data collection or formatting. The position requires a strong eye for design and detail, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong communication skills, accountability for one’s own work, and the flexibility to assist others when necessary.

Responsibilities:
Dashboard Development
  • Design, build, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports supporting program, agency, and funder reporting
  • Build data models and DAX measures from validated datasets prepared by the Data Analyst
  • Apply consistent metric definitions, visual standards, and templates across dashboards
  • Manage dashboard publishing, refresh schedules, and access permissions to protect confidential client data
Usability & Support
  • Translate requirements set by the Strategic Integration Manager into clear, intuitive dashboard layouts
  • Test and refine dashboards for usability and accessibility, including navigation, labels, and color contrast
  • Create user guides and provide training to help staff use dashboards with confidence
  • Flag data quality issues to the Data Analyst for correction at the source, and maintain dashboard documentation
Integrated Organizational Reporting
  • Build data models and dashboards that combine program data with organizational data from multiple sources (e.g., finance, HR, development)
  • Develop integrated metrics such as cost per client served, budget-to-actual by program, and staffing relative to service volume, using definitions agreed upon with Finance, HR, and program leadership
  • Use established reference structures (e.g., program-to-cost-center mappings, fiscal periods, department hierarchies) to align data consistently across sources
  • Identify inconsistencies between data sources and refer them to the Strategic Integration team for resolution
  • Apply role-based security so sensitive financial and personnel data is visible only to authorized users
Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:
  • 2+ years of experience building dashboards in Power BI or a comparable BI tool (e.g., Tableau), including data modeling and DAX
  • Portfolio or examples of dashboards designed for non-technical audiences
  • Strong understanding of data visualization and user-centered design best practices
  • Advanced expertise with Excel (e.g., formulas, graphing, pivot tables)
  • Ability to handle confidential client information responsibly
  • Strong attention to detail and love of problem-solving
Skills/Abilities We'd Like You to Have:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working in the nonprofit and/or social service sector
  • Familiarity with client or case-management systems; ETO preferred
  • Experience combining data from multiple systems (e.g., case management, financial, HRIS) into a single reporting model
Physical Requirements:
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
  • The employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or free to type, use a mouse, and manipulate small components; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear to communicate in person, over the phone, or with others in a potentially noisy environment. The employee is occasionally required to stand.
Other Duties:
