Projects span from concept to integration, with power stages typically under 10 kW and voltages under 1000 V, requiring careful thermal and noise control.

You will work under senior engineers to analyze, test, and document power conversion circuits, guide layout during PCB design, and present results to program leadership.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Electrical or related STEM major and actively enrolled through the internship/co‑op session.
  • Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co‑op session.
  • Design, analysis, test, and/or simulation experience with one or more of the following non-isolated converter topologies: buck, boost, buck‑boost.
  • Familiarity using tools such as MATLAB, MathCAD, Mathematica, or other similar tools.
  • Coursework related to analog electronics design, including at least one of the following: FETs/BJTs, op‑amp, high/low/band pass filters, clock/data termination, and comparator circuits.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, simulate, test, and document power conversion (and related analog) circuitry.
  • This circuitry will dominantly involve non-isolated and isolated switch mode power converters and linear converters.
  • Main emphasis is on board-mounted power end use applications.
  • Help to see circuit card development through its design phases, from requirements definition through initial integration testing.
  • Guide ECAD drafters through layout and routing activities, with support from senior engineers.
  • Function as an individual contributor.
  • Understand the role of a small team and engage in personal technical growth.

Are you ready to explore the world of aerospace and defense? Do you want to learn from and collaborate with some of the greatest minds in the industry? At RTX, our internships, co-ops and full-time careers provide an exceptional foundation to work on complex problems, advance your skills and create a safer, more connected world. Discover opportunities to make a difference at RTX. Raytheon's Effector Analog & Power (EAP) Team is looking for intern level engineers who have power electronics knowledge to help design robust power systems. The EAP Department is responsible for the development, from concept to integration, of Telemetry and Flight Termination products; power systems from all up round to the lowest level power regulation; servo electronics supporting all mechanical motion in our products and low noise mixed signal electronics that provides the analog to digital interface to our front-end sensors. Each of these products generally operate in lower power and voltage ranges less than 10kW and 1000V.

What You Will Do:

  • Design, analyze, simulate, test, and document power conversion (and related analog) circuitry.

  • This circuitry will dominantly involve non-isolated and isolated switch mode power converters and linear converters.

  • Main emphasis is on board-mounted power end use applications.

  • Help to see circuit card development through its design phases, from requirements definition through initial integration testing.

  • Guide ECAD drafters through layout and routing activities, with support from senior engineers.

  • Function as an individual contributor.

  • Understand the role of a small team and engage in personal technical growth.

  • Clearly present your work product to functional and program leadership.

Qualifications

You Must Have:

  • Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Electrical or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co‑op session.

  • Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co‑op session.

  • Design, analysis, test, and/or simulation experience with one or more of the following non-isolated converter topologies: buck, boost, buck‑boost.

We Prefer:

  • A self-starter, a quick learner, be able to function in a dynamic environment, and have good time management skills.

  • Experience in any one of the following: Familiarity with wide bandgap devices (SiC, GaN) in power electronics designs. Simulators such as SIMPLIS or SABER, or Mentor Graphics DxDesigner, and/or Hyperlynx. Design considerations for voltages >400V and/or power >10kW. Three-phase power systems, power factor control, and inverter/rectifier development.

What We Offer:

  • medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective‑bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short‑term and/or long‑term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective‑bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.‑based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
