The role focuses on developing and testing powder coating products, requiring a Chemistry degree and experience with formulations. Candidates will perform various analytical tasks ensuring product quality and performance meet customer specifications.
PPG Industries, Inc. seeks a Powder Coating Product Development Chemist, Expert in Strongsville, OH responsible for developing new powder coatings products, designing color and other chemical formulas, preparing and applying powder coatings products, and testing coatings against multiple specifications and requirements for PPG’s powder coatings products. Specific duties include: (i) weighing solid formulas and melt-mixing it through extrusion; (ii) testing coatings to customer specifications and preparing testing reports; (iii) spraying metal parts manually through electrostatic spray for evaluation and testing; (iv) performing cross-contamination checks; and (v) evaluating new raw materials as alternatives to current usage.
Must have a bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field plus three (3) years of experience in a related position.
Experience must include three (3) years with each of the following: (i) raw materials used in powder coatings and powder coating formulations; (ii) operating laboratory equipment used to manufacture and apply powder coatings; (iii) running performance testing and formulating powder coatings to meet customer performance requirements; (iv) planning, conducting, and analyzing experimental work (including coatings formulation, application, and testing) with minimal supervision; and (v) formulating customer-requested color matches.
Experience can be concurrent.
