Application and Special Instructions

This is a non-permanent position that will work on an intermittent or seasonal basis. Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in a 12-month period. The typical number of hours for this position will not exceed 24 hours/week.


Candidates selected for hire must successfully pass the following:



  • AZDPS/FBI Fingerprint Criminal History Check

  • Ability to obtain a CPR/First-Aid Certification within 90 days


This position requires the successful completion of the following pre-employment requirements.



  • Basic Physical

  • 50 lb. Lift Test


About this job Position Specific Summary

This position provides service to the patrons of the City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Leisure Class programs and is responsible for planning, instructing, and leading a specialized class or program. Instruction may target groups across the age and ability spectrum. Work is performed under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator. This position does not supervise.


Duties and Responsibilities


  • Conducts instruction in the specialty of Pottery in connection with the fee instruction program offered to the public by the Parks and Recreation Department.

  • Assists in ensuring the general security and maintenance of the pottery studio equipment and inventories equipment and supplies.

  • Prepares instructional materials and supplies; sets up room and cleans up room/area.

  • Explains and demonstrates use of apparatus and equipment or skill.

  • Explains and demonstrates principles, techniques, and methods of regulating movement of body, hands, and feet to achieve proficiency.

  • Demonstrates positive customer service skills when communicating with participants, parents and staff.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


Working Conditions

This position entails various day and evening classes as well as Saturdays at Recreation Centers. Lifting up to 50lbs may be required during routine inventory and loading/unloading the kiln. All duties and responsibilities listed are subject to change.


Minimum Qualifications

Education: 6 months Post-High School Work Experience: One (1) year of relevant experience Equivalency: Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis


Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in clay techniques Knowledge of pottery wheels, kilns, glazing tools, and safety protocols Background in teaching diverse age groups and skill levels, ideally in ceramics or fine arts.

Compensation
