MethodHub is seeking an experienced Database Administrator for a 12-month engagement in Phoenix, onsite three days a week. You will manage PostgreSQL, YugabyteDB, SQL Server and cloud-native databases, implement HA and automation, and collaborate across IT teams to ensure reliability.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years of DBA experience, strong scripting and IaC skills, and deep knowledge of cloud platforms and data platforms. Onsite work required with weekend rotation as needed.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on DBA experience across PostgreSQL, YugabyteDB, SQL Server.
• Experience with cloud-native databases: Aurora PostgreSQL/MySQL, Cloud SQL, Spanner.
• Deep technical knowledge of database administration: installation, upgrades, patching, backup, replication, HA.
• Ability to troubleshoot production issues and optimize performance and capacity.
• Automation and DevOps experience with Python, Unix shell, Ansible, Terraform, GitHub, and CI/CD.
• Experience with AWS and/or GCP database services and observability tools like Grafana.

Responsabilités

• Administer and maintain database platforms including installation, upgrades, patching, backups, replication and high availability.
• Monitor health, availability, capacity and performance; proactively reduce incidents.
• Triage production incidents and drive root-cause remediation and problem management.
• Plan and implement changes in alignment with Change Management processes.
• Collaborate with application, infra, cloud, security, and data teams to improve stability.
• Develop automation, observability, and self-healing features to boost reliability.
• Leverage AI-enabled tools to identify improvements and accelerate outcomes.

Location: Phoenix, AZ - day 1 onsite – min 3 days in the office.

Duration: 12 months

Key Responsibilities

• Administer database platforms, including installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, monitoring, troubleshooting, backup and recovery, replication, and high availability.
• Monitor database health, availability, capacity, and performance; identify risks early and implement proactive improvements to reduce incidents.
• Manage and resolve production incidents using established Incident Management processes.
• Perform root cause analysis and drive long-term remediation through Problem Management practices.
• Plan, validate, and implement database changes in alignment with Change Management processes.
• Partner with application, infrastructure, cloud, security, data engineering, and vendor teams to troubleshoot issues and improve platform stability.
• Contribute to the architecture, design, engineering, and optimization of enterprise-scale data platforms.
• Develop automation, observability, and self-healing capabilities to improve reliability, reduce manual effort, and increase operational efficiency.
• Leverage AI-enabled tools and automation frameworks to identify improvement opportunities and accelerate operational outcomes.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on DBA experience supporting PostgreSQL, YugabyteDB, SQL Server, and cloud-native databases such as Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora MySQL, Google Cloud SQL, and Google Cloud Spanner.
• Strong experience with database administration activities, including installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, monitoring, troubleshooting, backup and recovery, replication, and high availability.
• Deep technical knowledge of PostgreSQL, SQL Server, YugabyteDB, and cloud-native database platforms.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex production issues related to performance, query optimization, workload management, capacity planning, latency, availability, and reliability.
• Experience with automation and DevOps tools such as Python, Unix shell scripting, Ansible, Terraform, GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with AWS and/or GCP database services, Infrastructure as Code, monitoring, and observability tools such as Grafana and DMC.
• Understanding of data engineering concepts, including data ingestion, ETL/ELT, data pipelines, data integration, and support for high-volume data workloads.
• Knowledge of ITIL processes, including Incident, Problem, and Change Management, along with Disaster Recovery and root cause analysis.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, ownership, and collaboration skills in a 24x7 production support environment.
• Solid understanding of database setup, configuration, administration, and replication.
• Ability to learn quickly, work independently, and take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
• Willingness to provide rotational weekend and off-hours support as needed.
