We are looking for a highly experienced Senior PostgreSQL Database Engineer to lead enterprise PostgreSQL architecture, high availability, disaster recovery, performance optimization, security, automation, and production operations.
The ideal candidate will have deep hands-on PostgreSQL administration experience in enterprise environments, with a strong focus on building resilient, secure, and highly available database platforms.
- Design and implement enterprise PostgreSQL architecture, standardized builds, and operational standards.
- Configure and manage HA solutions using Patroni, etcd/Consul, streaming replication, HAProxy, and PgBouncer.
- Implement enterprise backup and recovery using pgBackRest, WAL archiving, and Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR).
- Design, test, and maintain disaster recovery solutions, including failover/failback procedures and RPO/RTO controls.
- Monitor and troubleshoot PostgreSQL performance, replication lag, locking, vacuum, WAL, storage, and capacity issues.
- Optimize SQL queries, execution plans, indexes, and database configurations.
- Implement database security, access controls, TLS, auditing, and centralized logging.
- Lead PostgreSQL patching, major-version upgrades, migrations, and end-of-life remediation.
- Automate database provisioning and operations using Ansible, Terraform, Git, Python/Shell scripting, and CI/CD.
- Develop architecture documents, operational runbooks, and provide knowledge transfer to internal teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 8–10+ years of database administration experience, preferably with 5+ years of substantial production PostgreSQL administration.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, including WAL, MVCC, VACUUM/autovacuum, XID wraparound, replication, indexing, partitioning, and query optimization.
- Hands‑on experience with Patroni or an equivalent HA framework, DCS quorum, failover/failback, and split‑brain prevention.
- Strong expertise in pgBackRest or equivalent enterprise backup tools, WAL archiving, PITR, and restore validation.
- Experience with PostgreSQL monitoring tools, pg_stat views, pg_stat_statements, Prometheus/Grafana, or equivalent platforms.
- Strong RHEL/Linux administration skills, including networking, storage, systemd, SELinux, and shell scripting.
- Experience with production incident response, root cause analysis, performance tuning, patching, and database upgrades.
- Hands‑on automation experience using Ansible, Git, Terraform, Python, or Shell scripting.
- Experience managing large-scale or multi‑terabyte PostgreSQL environments.
- PostgreSQL on Kubernetes/OpenShift or cloud and hybrid platforms.
- Experience with EDB, Percona, Crunchy Data, or upstream PostgreSQL.
- Enterprise IAM integration and regulated or critical‑infrastructure environments.
