Job summary

Dell is seeking a Postgres Database Engineer in Round Rock, Texas to shape and own the global PostgreSQL platform. You will architect HA, DR, and performance baselines, and drive Kubernetes-based deployment strategies at scale across thousands of instances.

You will mentor engineers, implement autonomous tooling for self-healing, and contribute to IaC modules with Ansible, enabling scalable, reliable database operations within a cutting-edge environment.

Qualifications

• 14 years of IT infrastructure or platform engineering experience.
• 6+ years of production PostgreSQL at scale with partitioning, replication, WAL tuning.
• 3+ years Kubernetes for stateful workloads with operators and storage design.
• 3+ years with Ansible for IaC.

Responsibilities

• Architect and lead PostgreSQL platform strategy across Dell’s global fleet – HA design, disaster recovery, security hardening, and performance baselines for thousands of instances
• Design and implement Postgres-on-Kubernetes at scale using operators (CloudNativePG/Patroni), storage architecture, multi-region failover, and observability integration
• Build agentic/autonomous tooling for self-healing failover, automated VACUUM/analyze scheduling, and predictive capacity alerts using LLM-augmented logic
• Author Infrastructure-as-Code modules (Ansible) and mentor engineers through weekly architecture reviews and represent Postgres

What you?ll achieveAs a Postgres Database Engineer, you will architect Dell’s global PostgreSQL platform strategy and build the autonomous tooling that enables self-healing database operations across thousands of instances. You will work with global database engineering pods to define Kubernetes-native deployment standards, mentor database engineers, and represent Postgres platform requirements in executive planning and vendor negotiations.

Requirements

• 14 years of IT infrastructure or platform engineering experience, or 7+ years with exceptional depth demonstrated through production scale, open-source contributions, or published work
• 6+ years of production PostgreSQL at scale – partitioning, logical replication, connection pooling (PgBouncer), WAL tuning, Patroni, pgBackRest
• 3+ years of Kubernetes for stateful workloads ? operators, persistent storage design, backup/restore in K8s, multi-cluster patterns
