Job summary

UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center seeks a Postdoctoral Scholar to conduct interdisciplinary lake and aquatic science, hydrodynamic modeling, remote sensing, and data science. You will develop and validate models predicting HAB probability and algae transport, integrate data with field observations, and lead dissemination of results to stakeholders.

The role includes field campaigns, manuscript preparation, and collaboration with principal investigators to advance freshwater ecosystem

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering, limnology, oceanography, environmental science, computational science or closely related field by start date.
• Proven research experience in hydrodynamic modeling of lakes or aquatic environments.
• Proven research experience in remote sensing and related products.
• Ability to conduct independent research within a collaborative, interdisciplinary team.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Knowledge in fluid dynamics and physical transport processes.
• Experience with fieldwork and travel to study sites.

Responsibilities

• Develop, configure, apply, calibrate, and validate 1D models to predict HAB probability in lakes.
• Develop, configure, apply, calibrate, and validate 3D models for HAB transport.
• Integrate hydrodynamic modeling with field observations, remote sensing, meteorological data, and other datasets.
• Create scalable workflows to process, analyze, visualize, and manage field and model data.
• Participate in field campaigns, including design and analysis of in-situ observations.
• Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
• Present results at technical meetings and with project partners.
• Coordinate research activities and data exchange with stakeholders.
• Design outreach and visualization tools for model predictions on a public website.
