Job summary

The Department of Urology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA seeks a Postdoctoral Scholar to join a basic science laboratory investigating bacteria and biofilms in kidney stones and translational surgical device design. The role is supervised by Kymora Scotland, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor.

The candidate will design and carry out experiments with patient-derived materials, mentor trainees, analyze data, and contribute to manuscripts and grant applications.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a biomedical science field.
• Basic knowledge of aseptic techniques and cell culture, immunohistochemistry (IHC), confocal imaging of fixed materials, micro-computed tomography (micro CT), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and scanning electron microscopy.
• Isolation and preparation of reagents for experiments.

Responsibilities

• Design, perform and coordinate lab experiments involving patient-derived materials.
• Mentor trainees with the PI in the laboratory.
• Gather and analyze data, prepare presentations, write manuscripts and prepare grant applications.

Job description

The Department of Urology is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to join a basic science laboratory studying the role of bacteria and biofilms in the formation and pathogenesis of kidney stones and translational surgical device design. This position is under the supervision of Kymora Scotland, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor.

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a biomedical science field. Candidates must also have basic knowledge of aseptic techniques and cell culture, immunohistochemistry (IHC), confocal imaging of fixed materials, micro-computed tomography (micro CT), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and scanning electron microscopy. Additional skills required include Isolation of preparing all manners of reagents for experiments.

The Postdoctoral Scholar will be expected to design, perform and coordinate lab experiments involving patient-derived materials. They will also be expected to mentor trainees with the PI in the laboratory, gather and analyze data, prepare presentations, write manuscripts, and write and prepare grant applications.
