Job summary

National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to advance silicon crystal growth using a float-zone technique with silane CVD. You will design, build, and test a new deposition system and perform extensive material characterization for purity and defects.

You will work with CFD modeling, technoeconomic analyses, and lifecycle teams to support design optimization and data-driven decisions. A proactive, safety-focused researcher with strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science, chemical or electrical engineering.
• Experience with growth, characterization, and processing of silicon or related materials.
• Capability to interpret experimental results and publish findings.
• Strong communication and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop a silicon boule float-zone system with silane deposition.
• Design, build, and test vacuum and CVD components for crystal growth.
• Characterize materials for purity and crystalline defects.
• Present data to team and sponsors; contribute to publications.
