Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Postdoctoral Fellow to join our cutting-edge research team focused on HIV-1 persistence and cure strategies. Duties
  • Conduct complex experiments involving tissue culture, lentiviral packaging and titration, DNA isolation, PCR, Western blotting, flow cytometry, ELISA, and immunoassays to investigate HIV-1 persistence mechanisms
  • Develop and optimize assays related to HIV-1 latency reversal and eradication strategies
  • Perform cell culture experiments with mammalian cells, including lentiviral transduction
  • Analyze datasets to interpret experimental results and generate scientific insights
  • Maintain meticulous laboratory records documenting experimental procedures, results, and data analysis outcomes in compliance with research standards
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on projects involving development of innovative HIV-1 cure strategies, molecular biology techniques, and biochemical assays
  • Contribute to scientific publications by preparing figures, writing manuscripts, and presenting findings at conferences or seminars
  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology or related field with demonstrated research experience in cell & molecular biology techniques and production of lentiviral vectors
  • Proven expertise in tissue culture methods including mammalian cell culture and transfection procedures
  • Hands-on experience with DNA isolation, PCR amplification, Western blotting, flow cytometry (cytometry), and immunoassays such as ELISA
  • Familiarity with assay development for HIV-1 latency studies or similar viral persistence models is highly desirable
  • Strong data analysis skills using biostatistical methods
  • Track record of scientific publications demonstrating independent research capabilities in relevant fields
  • Excellent record-keeping skills with attention to detail; ability to work effectively within a team environment in a fast-paced research setting

Salary: $63,480 - $69,180

Salary Range

The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those candidates who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
