Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM is seeking a highly qualified R&D Mechanical Engineer to join the Environments Engineering & Integration Department. The role focuses on structural dynamics, data analysis, and tool development for mechanical environments across defense and space applications.

You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, develop new capabilities, and contribute to peer‑reviewed publications.

Qualifications

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
• Strong publication and presentation record.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DOE security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project, test, and analysis engineers to deliver environmental research.
• Develop new capabilities to support programmatic needs.
• Apply structural dynamics, solid mechanics, and data science to tools for mechanical environments definition and analysis.
• Investigate shock and vibration specification development for various systems.
• Support field testing capability development to collect environments data.
• Work with modeling/simulation teams to derive environmental specifications and test specs.
