Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories seeks a highly motivated mechanical engineer to join our structural dynamics and solid mechanics team. You will contribute to research, development, and application of advanced computational capabilities on HPC platforms to study nonlinear responses of engineering systems.

The role involves developing robust research portfolios, collaborating with experts across disciplines, and advancing numerical methods and surrogate models for complex loading conditions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and 5+ years of directly relevant experience or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with nonlinear structural mechanics, dynamics and vibrations, including numerical methods, finite element analysis, and modal analysis.

Responsibilities

• Use HPC platforms and massively-parallel finite-element software to simulate nonlinear structural responses.
• Research advanced topics in nonlinear mechanics.
• Develop new numerical algorithms and integrate into finite element software with code development teams.
• Investigate reduced-order modeling strategies for efficient large-scale simulations.
• Collaborate with experimental engineers to develop test plans for validating theories and predictions.
• Develop a robust research portfolio through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
