Dr. Lisa Ellerby's laboratory at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying age-related neurodegenerative diseases and develops novel small molecule and protein therapeutics for brain aging. We employ a rich toolkit including iPSC-derived neurons and organoids, CRISPR/Cas9, single-cell analysis, proteomics, genomics, and phenotypic screening to understand why neurological diseases increase so dramatically with age - and to identify new ways to prevent and treat them.
