Job description

A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the laboratory of Zizhen Kang, Ph.D., in the Department of Pathology at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.

Our laboratory is broadly interested in neuroimmunology and mucosal immunology. Using genetically engineered animal models and state-of-the-art technologies, we investigate the mechanisms by which inflammasome hyperactivation drives autoinflammatory diseases and inflammatory bowel disease. We also study how oligodendroglia contribute to autoimmune neuroinflammation and the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis.

For more information about our research program, please visit our laboratory website (Zizhen Kang | Department of Pathology) and review our recent publications (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/myncbi/zizhen.kang.1/bibliography/public/).

Applicants should have a strong background in molecular biology, immunology, or a related field, with experience in animal models, molecular and cellular biology, and biochemical techniques. The successful candidate is expected to work independently while contributing effectively in a collaborative and multidisciplinary research environment.

Education Requirement: PhD, MD/PhD or MD with significant bench research experience.

Required Qualifications: Good writing and communication skills in English. Experience working with mice. Research experience inimmunology and molecular biology.

Desirable Qualifications: Proficient in molecular biology techniques including CRISPR/Cas technology. Experience in cellular biochemistry, especially cellular signaling pathways.

Salary: Starting at $63,480 annually, with higher compensation commensurate with experience and in accordance with University of Iowa and NIH guidelines.
