Job description

Dr. Miraldi’s Immuno-Engineering Laboratory seeks a computational research fellow to build mathematical models of the immune system in vivo. These models will be constructed from cutting‑edge, high‑dimensional immune‑system measurements (e.g., single‑cell genomics, chromatin state, proteomics). Our mathematical modeling frameworks span mechanistic (dynamic gene regulatory networks) to deeplearning (prediction of cellular epigenomes from DNA sequence). Situated at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, we are dedicated to designing computational methods and systems‑immunology studies that will ultimately improve the health of children. Through close collaboration with physicians and experimental colleagues, we iteratively test and refine our models to yield novel insights into immune‑cell function and guide new therapeutic strategies in autoimmunity, infectious disease, and cancer.

Responsibilities

• Perform analysis and experiments: design, execute, record analysis and experiments; apply standard scientific protocols; develop and implement human‑subject and vertebrate animal research protocols; prepare, clean, and analyze data; conduct regular quality and reproducibility checks; maintain accurate records.
• Communicate results/findings: draft, write, and edit scientific reports, papers, journal articles, and abstracts; present research at meetings, journal clubs, and seminars; discuss insights with faculty and provide recommendations.
• Innovate and advance departmental capabilities: reproduce, evaluate, and improve existing techniques; adapt new methods to existing procedures; develop and verify new procedures; standardize published procedures; troubleshoot and correct erroneous results; maintain and repair software and equipment.
• Financial/Budgeting: assist in preparing grant applications; prepare, write, and maintain fiscal budget; monitor expenditures; prepare capital expenditure requests.
• Staff leadership and training: provide functional leadership for a team; manage support staff; guide work assignments; serve as mentor and provide training to employees.
• Education and training: serve as course master and develop new courses; deliver lectures; evaluate student performance; assist in training new employees.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in a related discipline, MD, or equivalent degree; preferred: Ph.D. in Computer Science, Physics, Biomedical Informatics, Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or other quantitative disciplines.
• Experience in a related discipline and ability to collaborate closely with experimental immunologists, physicians, and computational biologists.
