Rutgers University’s Waksman Institute of Microbiology in Piscataway, NJ seeks a Post Doctoral Associate (Gallavotti Lab) to perform professional experiments, document results, and train staff and students in lab techniques. The role contributes to publications, presentations, and grant proposals in a dynamic, collaborative team.

The candidate will design and carry out experiments on regulatory regions in maize, analyze data, mentor undergraduates, and present findings at conferences.

Qualifications

• The candidate must have a recent PhD degree in Genetics, Molecular Biology, or a related field by the position’s start date.
• In-depth understanding and experience in molecular cloning, genetics and genomics, CRISPR‑mediated editing and genotyping, plant phenotyping, bioinformatic analysis (RNA‑seq, ChIP‑seq etc.), protein expression and protein‑DNA interactions.
• The candidate should be highly motivated, organized, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Preferred: experience in bioinformatic analysis, plant tissue culture and plant transformation (excluding Arabidopsis nuclear transformation) and CRISPR‑Cas editing.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research on cis-regulatory regions in the maize genome.
• Analyze research data and prepare manuscripts for publication.
• Mentor and train undergraduate students in the lab; participate in outreach activities.
• Present research findings at local and international conferences.
