Job description

Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Haq Lab
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
Boston, MA
Full Time
Overview

The Haq lab is recruiting for a highly motivated and capable Research Fellow to join the Haq Lab at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in cancer biology and therapeutics and will function as part of a multidisciplinary basic science and translational team. This post-doctoral position is available to start at any time. The focus of the research will be to study the mechanisms of metastasis and dormancy in uveal melanoma. We have generated a novel mouse model that closely resembles the disease, yielding numerous insights into it. This is quite novel work, and the incoming post-doc will play a major role in authoring papers based on findings already gathered within our group.

Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS, and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physicians/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.

You should have experience and high-level proficiency in cell culture, protein work, RNAseq/qPCR, and ideally (though not a prerequisite) some mouse experience. Our lab commonly uses CRISPR-based functional tools, but experience with these techniques is not required for consideration.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate advanced technical proficiency, scientific creativity, and operate with a high degree of independence.
  • Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings, including grant preparation and presentations, and look for opportunities to co-author publications. May be expected to participate in formal and information presentations of results to staff.
  • Participate in grant application process and manuscript preparation as required.
  • Maintain detailed notebook of all work-related activities.
  • Expected to provide intellectual and interactive commitment to position by keeping up with appropriate literature and research publications.
  • Train and oversee the lab work of research technicians in the group.
  • May be responsible for the development, modification and improvement of standard operating procedures.
  • May be responsible for monitoring laboratory budgets.
