University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to study quantitation and characterization of mucin macromolecules in health and disease within the Marsico Lung Institute. The lab focuses on mucus biology using biochemical, biophysical and proteomics approaches.

Qualifications

Position Summary:

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available for a Ph.D. or equivalent level candidate at University of North Carolina, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and the Marsico Lung Institute. We are interested in quantitation and characterization of mucin macromolecules in health and diseases with mucus abnormalities such as COPD, asthma, CF. This study will employ a broad range of biochemical, biophysical, and proteomics characterization of mucins and their quantitation using light scattering and labeled mass spectrometry-based quantitation technologies. Our laboratory at the Marsico Lung Institute is one of the best-equipped and most focused mucin/mucus biochemistry and biophysics innate immunity laboratories in the USA. As such, it will provide the selected candidate with a unique opportunity to develop new skills and apply them to fundamental questions in innate lung defense.

Postdoc should have experience in biochemistry, plus hands-on experience with the quantitation of macromolecules and the internal and external quality control and validation of such measurements.
Postdoc should have excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to get along with co-workers and faculty in multi-disciplinary research teams.
Postdoc should have a demonstrated record of scientific productivity and be capable of working independently while collaborating closely with the principal investigator.
