The University of Illinois Chicago’s Oral Biology department invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Bedran-Russo Lab. You will conduct interdisciplinary research on artificial and biological interfaces of mineralized dental tissues and bioinspired biomaterials.

Qualifications

• Must have excellent organizational and communication skills and a strong work ethic.

• Carry out various experimental studies, becoming well-versed in multi-scale mechanical analytical methods, spectroscopic assays for biochemical characterizations, high-resolution imaging, and cell viability studies
• Use of data management programs and perform data analysis
• Prepare reports and peer review manuscripts

• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Position Summary

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will carry out advanced research under the supervision of Dr. Ana Bedran-Russo in the Department of Oral Biology at the University of Illinois Chicago. The position focuses on interdisciplinary research centered on fundamental and translational studies on artificial and biological interfaces of mineralized dental tissues and bioinspired modulation strategies for the development of novel dental biomaterials. This position offers the opportunity to work in an environment that fosters research innovation and the career development of early career scientists.

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD (or equivalent) in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Material Sciences, Biomaterials or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong background in one of the following areas: extracellular matrix biochemistry, biomechanics, mineralized tissue, and biomineralization.
• Proficiency in quantitative protein analytical methods, atomic force microscopy, dynamic mechanical techniques, and ultrastructural imaging is preferable.
• Individuals with a doctoral degree in dentistry (DDS, DMD, or equivalent), in addition to a PhD degree.
