Job description

A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the department of Radiation Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Chung's lab major research focus is to utilize advanced medical imaging tools to measure and predict response and toxicity to treatment with novel systemic agents and high precision radiotherapy. In addition, the lab is working on the standardization of collection and nomenclature of images to facilitate meaningful measurement and interpretation of imaging biomarkers across departments and institutions.

The postdoctoral fellow will develop quantitative imaging processing and analysis approaches in order to identify key imaging parameters that can be utilized as imaging biomarkers and to guide adaptive radiotherapy approaches. In addition, the postdoctoral fellow will also assist in leadership and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

• Develop and implement advanced quantitative imaging processing and analysis methodologies to evaluate treatment response and toxicity associated with novel systemic therapies and precision radiotherapy.
• Identify, validate, and characterize imaging biomarkers that can improve disease assessment, treatment monitoring, and patient outcome prediction.
• Support the development of adaptive radiotherapy strategies by integrating imaging-derived metrics into clinical decision-making frameworks.
• Contribute to projects focused on the standardization of imaging acquisition, data collection, and nomenclature to facilitate consistent interpretation and utilization of imaging biomarkers across departments and collaborating institutions.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of clinicians, physicists, data scientists, and researchers to advance translational imaging research initiatives.
• Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications, scientific presentations, and grant-supported projects.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to undergraduate and graduate students, fostering a collaborative and educational research environment.
• Assist in establishing best practices for imaging data management, analysis workflows, and reproducible research methodologies.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

For an individual to be eligible for a postdoctoral fellow appointment, all of the following conditions must be met:

• The appointee recently (within three years) completed their education (doctorate) or completed previous postdoctoral experience or graduate medical education
• The appointment is temporary
• The appointment involves substantial full-time research or scholarship.
• The appointment is viewed as preparatory for a full-time academic and/or research career
• The appointment is not part of a clinical training program
• The appointee works under the supervision of a senior scholar or a department in a university or similar research institution (e.g., national laboratory, National Institutes of Health (NIH), etc.)
• The appointee has the freedom to and is expected to publish the results of his or her research or scholarship during the period of the appointment

Postdoctoral fellowships are designed to provide intensive laboratory-based research experiences that produce independent investigators. Appointees holding an M.D. degree or equivalent are not permitted to engage in patient care activity.

POSITION INFORMATION

MD Anderson offers full-time postdoc positions with a salary ranging from $64,000 to $76,000. depending on the number of years of postgraduate experience.
