The University of Georgia is seeking a research-focused scientist in the Department of Plant Pathology to study antifungal resistance in agricultural environments. This position in the Department of Plant Pathology will work on antifungal resistance monitoring of human pathogens in agricultural environments. Projects include development of assays for the rapid molecular detection of azole-resistant strains of Aspergillus fumigatus in environmental samples, identification of environments conducive to azole resistance development, and identifying fitness costs of azole resistance in fungi in agricultural environments.
Doctorate in Genetics, Biology, Plant Pathology, Microbiology or a related field. Molecular diagnostic research experience and experience working with fungi or other microorganisms. Previous field work experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills with a publication record.
Carry out field work under various environmental conditions, and standard laboratory and greenhouse work. Travel to field sites will be required.
