Description

The Department of Environmental Studies is searching for a Postdoctoral Associate to join the Yin Lab beginning September 1, 2026.

The Postdoctoral Associate will evaluate the seasonal tradeoffs on summer versus winter temperature changes associated with various extreme heat mitigation strategies such as albedo increases and urban greening. Exploring patterns across diverse regions of the globe, the Postdoctoral Associate will aim to construct a set of generalizable, high-level strategic guidelines based on local background climate conditions (e.g., local climate zones, aridity, snow rates).

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $75,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

This position is based in New York, and the selected candidate will be expected to work onsite as of their effective start date.

We welcome applications from international candidates; however, please note that NYU is not an E-Verify employer and therefore unable to support STEM OPT extensions.

Qualifications

Applicants must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in a relevant field (climate science, earth science, or environmental science) prior to the starting date of their appointment and should have a strong background in spatial climate data analysis. The candidate should possess past experience researching extreme heat on a global-to-local scale and experience conducting research on low likelihood, high impact events.

Applicants should have significant experience and expertise in Python and/or other coding languages. The ideal candidate will also have experience in and passion for conducting interdisciplinary scientific research that produces actionable results for stakeholders and decision makers, as well as experience communicating complex scientific information to a variety of nonscientific audiences.
