Job summary

New York University’s Department of Environmental Studies invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate in the Yin Lab to begin September 1, 2026. The position focuses on evaluating seasonal tradeoffs in heat mitigation strategies and building generalizable guidelines from climate data.

The successful candidate will work onsite in New York, have a Ph.D., strong background in spatial climate data analysis, and experience with Python and interdisciplinary science communication.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in climate science, earth science, or environmental science completed before start date.
• Strong background in spatial climate data analysis.
• Experience researching extreme heat on global-to-local scale.
• Proficiency in Python and/or other coding languages.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate seasonal tradeoffs on summer versus winter temperature changes under various extreme heat mitigation strategies (e.g., albedo increases, urban greening).
• Develop generalizable, high-level strategic guidelines based on local climate background conditions (e.g., climate zones, aridity, snow rates).
