Job summary

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks a Post Doctoral Researcher to join the Energy Systems Engineering Group, focusing on power systems monitoring, statistical signal processing, and grid reliability challenges posed by evolving load profiles and generation mixes.

The successful candidate will apply Python and MATLAB, work with PSS/E, PowerWorld, or PSCAD, and contribute to peer‑reviewed publications while collaborating with researchers across disciplines.

Qualifications

• PhD obtained within the last five years or within the next eight months.
• PhD in electrical engineering or related field preferred.
• GPA 3.5+ preferred.
• Proficiency in MATLAB and Python.
• Strong foundation in power systems dynamics; hands-on experience with simulators like PSS/E, PowerWorld, PSCAD.
• Experience with statistical signal processing and technical writing.

Responsibilities

• Support development of innovative, rigorous research approaches for modern power system dynamics.
• Collaborate with researchers across the group to enable grid of the future.
• Execute tasks with increasing independence and manage small technical efforts.
• Publish journal articles, conference papers, and technical reports; present findings externally.
• Assist in proposing new research ideas and proposals to expand capabilities.
