Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate specializing in organic and organometallic synthesis for harsh environment materials and preceramic polymer infiltrations.

The successful candidate will work within the Chemical Sciences Division and MDF, developing ceramics and carbon/carbon additive manufacturing, examining processing, and publishing results.

Qualifications

• PhD in chemistry, materials science, ceramic engineering, chemical engineering, or a closely related field.
• Experience in chemical synthesis of organometallics commensurate with posted requirements.
• Experience in polymer and catalysis/organometallic compound synthesis, familiarity with air/water reactive compounds, glovebox experience, high temperature composites curing and processing knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Develop processes and materials for composites, including ceramic matrix composites.
• Research high temperature materials for advanced and additive manufacturing in energy applications.
• Perform chemical synthesis of ceramic and carbon precursor polymers.
• Strong knowledge of organometallics and thermosets.
• Working knowledge of electromagnetic properties of materials.
• Present and report research results and publish scientific results in peer-reviewed journals in a timely manner.
• Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements.
• Maintain strong dedication to the implementation and perpetuation of safe laboratory practices, values and ethics.
