Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to develop correlative microanalytical techniques for nuclear materials characterization across spatial scales. The role leverages LLNL’s SIMS, SEM, EDS, and TEM to advance imaging, dating, and image fusion methods.

The position requires full-time on-site presence in Livermore and offers a competitive salary with relocation and education benefits.

Qualifications

• PhD in analytical chemistry, geochemistry, materials science or related field.
• Experience with microanalysis methods such as SIMS, SEM, EDS and TEM.
• Strong foundation in mass spectrometry principles.
• Ability to develop independent research projects as shown by publications.
• Programming in Python or similar for data analysis and automation.
• Able to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Operate SIMS and other instruments for high-resolution isotopic imaging.
• Characterize materials with SEM/EDS/TEM for elemental/morphological info.
• Apply AI/ML to analyze microanalytical image datasets.
• Use statistics for uncertainty quantification in measurements.
• Publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
• Present findings at conferences and technical meetings.
• Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team to reach goals.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
