Job summary

Baylor University’s NOAHS Lab is seeking a Postdoc Research Associate focused on silicon photonic integrated circuits for optical communication and computing. You will explore ultra-low voltage, high-bandwidth modulators, and nanophotonic sensing with potential industry collaboration.

The position is for one year with possible extension based on performance and funding. The PI, Prof. Alan Wang, has an extensive track record in laser and photonics research and collaboration with industry.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a closely related field.
• Strong background in optics/photonics and solid-state physics.
• Research experience with integrated photonics, silicon photonics, cleanroom fabrication, and optical device characterization.

Responsibilities

• Design high-speed optical modulators for fabrication on 300 mm SOI wafers or other PIC shuttles.
• Fabricate photonic devices and subsystems using advanced deposition and patterning techniques.
• Characterize high-speed optoelectronic devices with VNA, AWG, and DCA.
• Mentor PhD students and collaborate with industrial partners; engage with external collaborators.
• Prepare and write journal manuscripts and present at conferences or posters.
• Fulfill Baylor’s mission and maintain regular attendance.
