Job summary

UT-Battelle, operating Oak Ridge National Laboratory, seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to advance multiscale modeling and probabilistic lifing for high-temperature alloys and extreme environment materials. You will implement nonlinear constitutive models into FE codes and explore crystal plasticity for additively manufactured alloys.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field within the past five years.
  • Strong background in mechanical behavior of materials.
  • Experience developing and implementing constitutive models in commercial or open-source FE software.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in development and implementation of nonlinear constitutive models into FE codes.
  • Participate in development of crystal plasticity constitutive models into FE codes for additively manufactured alloys.
  • Develop probabilistic lifing approaches for additively manufactured materials using multiscale modeling.
  • Present and report research results at workshops and conferences and publish key findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary lab environment across computational scientists, experimentalists, and engineers.
  • Deliver ORNL’s mission by upholding core values and promoting an inclusive, safe workplace.
