CIRES at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate in numerical weather prediction (NWP) development, focused on cloud microphysics, within NOAA's Global Systems Laboratory in Boulder, CO. The successful candidate will collaborate with federal and university colleagues to advance microphysics parameterizations and precipitation in NWP.

Qualifications

• PhD in atmospheric science or relevant field completed by start date.
• Proficiency in numerical weather/climate prediction.
• Proficiency in Fortran/C++, Python and Linux HPC environments.
• Strong data processing and visualization with NetCDF/GRIB2.
• Ability to collaborate with NOAA and university teams.

Responsibilities

• Conduct hypothesis-driven research to improve microphysics in NWP models (precipitation focus).
• Collaborate with lead microphysics developers to guide future work.
• Prepare briefing materials and publish scientific content regularly.
• Perform other relevant duties as needed.
