Job summary

Colorado State University (CSU) invites applications for a full-time Research Associate to collaborate with NOAA's Global Systems Laboratory in Boulder, CO. The ideal candidate will develop and deploy atmospheric models on HPC systems, maintaining FWACB code and advancing real-time forecasting capabilities.

The role requires an onsite presence three days per week with partial telework, and a background in computational atmospheric science.

Qualifications

• MS/PhD in a relevant field with 2+ years of related experience or PhD equivalent.
• 4+ years of experience programming in C/C++ or Fortran.
• Experience in HPC Linux environments.
• Experience with GitHub for version control, CI/testing, and collaborative codebase management.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain code repositories for FWACB and transition advancements into real-time applications.
• Evolve code to leverage modern software capabilities for real-time fire weather forecasting and atmospheric composition models.
• Ensure portability of models across HPC platforms and integration with UFS/MPAS ecosystems.
