Job summary

CIRES at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate in numerical weather prediction development focused on cloud microphysics. The role is based in Boulder, CO, within NOAA's Global Systems Laboratory, working with federal and university colleagues to advance microphysical parameterizations and precipitation forecasting.

The successful candidate will contribute to model development, collaborate with the physics branch, and publish scientific results.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in atmospheric science or a relevant field completed by Dec 1, 2026.
• Experience with numerical weather/climate prediction.
• Proficiency in Fortran/C++, Python, Linux and HPC environments.

Responsibilities

• Conduct hypothesis-driven research to improve microphysics parameterizations in NWP models.
• Collaborate with physics developers to inform future development.
• Prepare briefing materials and publish scientific content regularly.
• Perform other duties as necessary.
