Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in HPC system architecture and intelligent storage design. The role focuses on scalable storage, memory architectures, telemetry-guided optimization, and performance analysis for HPC, scientific AI, and edge computing.

The position is in the NCCS Technology Integration group, offering collaboration with leading researchers and opportunities to coauthor publications.

Qualifications

• PhD in computer science/engineering with research in HPC/AI/edge systems and storage within past five years.
• Experience with HPC-related software development for applications, middleware, or system software.
• Ability to work independently to design and deploy methods at scale.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate on data and storage-related HPC and AI research projects.
• Conduct I/O and storage performance characterization on multi-tier HPC storage systems.
• Collect and analyze telemetry data to inform design decisions and tuning.
• Explore DDR vs. HBM usage and propose architectural improvements.
• Design and evaluate ephemeral, user-configurable data and storage systems.
• Coauthor peer‑reviewed publications and technical reports.
