University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in the Staller lab within the MCB department. The project explores how folded protein domains drive transcription factor filament formation using yeast, human, and plant factors, combining experiments with computation.
The position involves molecular biology (DNA isolation, PCR, Illumina library prep), yeast culture, and computational analysis, with training in both experimental and data-driven approaches and
The Staller lab resides in the Division of Genetics, Genomics, Evolution, and Development (GGED) in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology (MCB) at the University of California, Berkeley. Max Staller is a member of the Center for Computational Biology (CCB) and a Chan Zuckerberg BioHub – San Francisco Investigator. The lab takes a genomics approach to biochemistry to study transcription factor function. Our work combines experiments, theory, computational modeling, simulations, machine learning, and evolutionary comparison. We work on yeast, human, and plant transcription factors.
We are embarking on a new collaborative project to investigate how folded protein domains cause transcription factors to form filaments. This project is funded by the HSFP. This position will investigate how transcription factor filament formation contributes to cooperative DNA binding, cooperative transcriptional activation, cooperative transcriptional repression, and other potential gene regulation.
The work will have a focus on molecular biology techniques including DNA isolation, PCR, Illumina sequencing library preparation, yeast cell culture, and computational analysis of the resulting data. The position will involve a mixture of experimental and computational work. Opportunities for experimental training, computational training, and career development will be available.
Additional duties will include:
