Job summary

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Kumar Laboratory to advance mechanistic studies of drug–microbiome–immune interactions using anaerobic bacteriology, bacterial genetics, and gnotobiotic animal models.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Microbiology or a related field with a strong publication record; opportunities include manuscript preparation, grant applications, and cross-disciplinary collaboration within the department.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Microbiology or a related biomedical discipline is required.
• Experience with bacterial communities/pathogens and genetic manipulation is essential.
• Experience with animal models of infection/immunity and anaerobic bacteriology is preferred.
• Demonstrated research productivity with manuscripts published during graduate work is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanistic and translational studies investigating drug-microbiome-immune interactions.
• Prepare high-impact manuscripts and develop postdoctoral fellowship applications.
• Establish and optimize experimental protocols across anaerobic bacteriology, bacterial genetics, and animal models.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students and collaborate across the department.
• Participate in seminars, WIP meetings, and career development programs.
