Tulane University’s Bywater Institute invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Community Flood Risk Reduction. The Fellow will collect and analyze data on Gulf Coast communities’ environmental and social histories, supporting regional watershed management and resilience planning.

The role fosters methodological development, collaboration, and dissemination through reports, manuscripts, and presentations, with opportunities for grant-writing and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree (Ph.D.) in social science, environment-related, or related field with strong focus on social dimensions of hazards.
• Strong research skills (qualitative and/or quantitative methods).
• Ability to independently implement data collection and analysis, and to train/direct others.
• Excellent time management, interpersonal, written, and communication skills.
• Eagerness to collaborate with others.

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze data on environmental and social histories of Gulf Coast communities vulnerable to climate hazards.
• Support regional watershed management and resilience planning projects.
• Develop data collection instruments and coding frameworks; code data and perform analyses.
• Manage data storage and produce outputs (reports, manuscripts, presentations, posters).
• Pursue professional development opportunities including grant-writing and collaborative research.
