Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking a talented materials scientist to design, synthesize and characterize advanced battery materials and electrolytes for energy storage applications. The role requires hands-on work in synthesis, electrochemistry, and materials characterization with an emphasis on earth‑abundant elements.

Qualifications

• PhD obtained within past five years (60 months) or within next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
• PhD in electrochemistry, chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or related field.
• Experience with high-performance aqueous Zn, Li-/Na-ion, or redox flow batteries is preferred.
• Strong understanding of engineering, materials science and electrochemistry principles.

Responsibilities

• Design, synthesis, and testing of high‑performance battery materials and electrolytes for energy storage.
• Collaborate with project managers and senior scientists to develop electrode materials and electrolytes.
• Scale-up materials for cell prototyping and contribute to publications and reports.
• Present data and results at reviews and conferences.
